Rogue Bananas and Other Random Allergens

Today's random bodily stupidity has its roots in yesterday. Yesterday when we ran errands I made sure to grab four bananas, two green, two ripe. Why? Well, the riper the banana the more off gassing of sulfur fumes you get. Sulfur anything but especially fumes gets me. Late last night as I was taking meds I stopped to eat one of the two greenish bananas I bought for myself. I took care to make sure I did not eat a ripe one. I cannot eat ripe ones, its a trip to asthma city.

Didn't fucking matter. Eat banana, wheeze, realize I need to completely rinse the mouth out and scrub hard to get rid of the nasty allergic banana in my system. I don't know what went wrong unless my allergy to ripe bananas has now spread to unripe ones. Too bad, I always loved them. They taste incredible here, so much better fresh than in the States.

This morning get up with the lingering nonsense from moving into week three of the flu (low fevers, exhaustion, stomach issues) and go headfirst into more asthma and more silly wheezing. Why this time? First my husband's shaving cream - Gillette Foamy, followed by reacting to his favorite shampoo - Herbal Essence. Both of which he's used a million times around me with no reaction.

As the day wore on I reacted to the bleach based mopping solution the cleaning lady used at the Coope (Costa Rican credit union/building and loan) while we were there buying a CD. Lunch at a place there I've eaten at many times with no reactions was hellsapopping crazy with reactions, not so much asthma as food allergy reactions. Mostly shredded veggies on whole wheat. No idea if it was how they were processed or cleaned or treated with preservatives.

Shoot, it's always something. I guess I'll just go over there and huddle around with a glass of water and nothing else. Wearing a mask.

My old pulmonologist used to say he wished he could seal me into a plastic bubble, but with his luck I'd just be allergic to the plastic. He might be right.

This is the problem with systemic mastocytosis -- when the engine of immunio overreaction turns on everything provokes including things you're usually no problem with. Especially things you've never reacted to before. *insert lots of curse words here* time to med like mad. I give up, I'm going to bed.
